the Saga continues...
After the 1977 hit of the first star wars movie there was no doubt that sequels had to be made. The year of 1980 George Lucas had finally released the sequel to the highest grossing moving of all time, Star Wars: The empire strikes back. Lucas did not want to come back to direct the full thing but merely wanted to write the story and direct a couple scenes. The job went to Irvin Kirchner who did possibly one of the greatest jobs with a movie anyone has ever seen. Empire had real built ships such as a life sized Millennium Falcon, x- wings, and toy sized modeled imperial walkers to shoot the planet Hoth battle scene. It is also the movie that holds the plot twist of Darth Vader being Luke's father which put fans in shock. Empire made a total of $209,398,025 domestically. The 3rd installment if the franchise was originally going to be called "Revenge of the Jedi" but Lucas believed it made the Jedi sound evil when they were really meant for good. Return of the Jedi was directed by George Lucas and came out the year of 1983 making 252,583,617 domestically. Star wars is the 2nd highest grossing film in the world right behind Gone with the wind.
